‘Building bridges’
On the day of the President's arrival in China, the People's diary of this country published an article written by Erdogan. In his article Erdoğan stressed that Turkey has been "building bridges and connecting civilizations for centuries".
"Our abroad policy is based on building trust, maintaining open channels of communication and demonstrating a strong commitment to solving crises. Through this understanding, we make a crucial contribution to regional and global stability, tirelessly striving for peace, stableness and dialogue," Erdoğan said in the article. He gave examples of solutions mitigating the effects of global crises, pointing to the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
"This initiative has ensured food safety for millions of people worldwide. By bringing the parties together to conduct peace negotiations in Antalya and Istanbul, we were able to keep the diplomatic exchange while ensuring the beginning of humanitarian corridors. We besides played a key function in the exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine. Recently, by organising renewed peace talks in Istanbul in July 2025, we increased our contribution even more. Following the rule that “there are no winners in war, and there are no losers in a fair peace”, we proceed our peace diplomacy with patience”, Erdoğan said.
Turkey applies delicate diplomacy, balancing national interests with building friendly relations with all countries, regardless of their affiliation, in a planet in which Cold War polarization occasionally makes itself known. Ankara's efforts to strengthen ties with China and Russia were interpreted as a departure from a long-term alliance with the Western world, but Turkey denies it and regularly pursues the interests of this world, even though differences stay between them.
Erdoğan is simply a staunch critic of the present planet order, and especially the structure of the United Nations, which he considers to be an obstacle to a fairer representation of the wider global community. This is summed up by the frequently repeated slogan: "The planet is larger than five", referring to 5 members of the powerful UN safety Council.
"Our planet is shaken by crises of unprecedented scale and complexity. Unfortunately, the current global strategy does not deal with these crises and does not defend the rights of the innocent. The events in the Gaza Strip, including the brutality and genocide committed by Israel, are any of the most striking examples of this reality. Turkey's position on the Gaza Strip is clear due to the fact that people and human rights are at the heart of our policy. Our efforts to guarantee the safety of the civilian population, continued access to humanitarian aid and permanent ceasefire are constantly increasing. By providing humanitarian assistance to those in request on the ground, we proceed to usage diplomatic measures to advance the introduction of ceasefire and the protection of innocent civilians. The warrant of lasting peace on the Palestinian issue is clear to us: full independent and sovereign.
The Palestinian State must be built on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The establishment of the Palestinian State is essential for achieving lasting peace throughout the region," Erdoğan wrote in his article. "Steps towards regional peace must be taken on many fronts. economical links, infrastructure projects, energy cooperation and cultural exchange are organization elements that contribute to assurance building. With its projects in different geographical regions, Turkey will proceed to play a function in improving global stability, expanding the possible of humanitarian aid and developing solutions on multilateral platforms," he added.
Erdoğan said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit would be an crucial platform for Turkey to express its views on regional and global issues.
"As a partner of dialog at this summit, Turkey considers it its fundamental work to emphasise the request to transform regional peace, development, safety and economical issues, as well as justice, equality and a more inclusive knowing of the global order in global relations," he said.
Turkey joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) as a dialog partner in 2013, and in 2016 took over the presidency of this global organization's energy club for a year. Ankara has already expressed its want to be a full associate of the SCO, and Erdoğan confirmed this last year, while stressing that it will not be treated as an alternate to Turkey's membership of NATO and to search accession to the European Union. It is presently the only NATO associate among the SCO dialog partners and the only country to join the EU.
"Turkey and the People's Republic of China, with their strong state traditions, a strong approach to improvement and the developing economy, represent 2 ancient civilizations on the east and western ends of the Asian continent. The past of relations between our peoples dates back thousands of years. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and the People's Republic of China in 1971, comprehensive political, economic, social and cultural relations have been characterised by constant development. We attach large importance to deepening this profoundly rooted and close cooperation, based on common respect and a mutually beneficial approach for both parties," Erdoğan wrote in his article.
"As Turkey, we form the present with the strength and experience gained in the past, and the future we build on the foundation of peace, trust and cooperation. all step we take from our region opens up fresh horizons for the world. In the face of unusual times, we will proceed to take work with determination to build trust, keep open channels of dialog and solve crises. We believe that consolidating the global community, in which the People's Republic of China plays a leading role, around a common conscience and common interests will pave the way for a fairer and more prosperous world," concluded the President.
At the end of the summit, leaders are expected to sign the Tianjin Declaration and approve a 10-year strategy as well as final papers on security, trade, energy and cultural cooperation.
The summit will besides issue statements on the 80th anniversary of the end of planet War II and the UN.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) developed from the Shanghai 5 mechanics covering China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan before Uzbekistan joined as sixth member. It presently brings together 10 associate States, 2 observers and 14 dialog partners from Asia, Europe and Africa.
The organization covers about 24% of the global land area and 42% of the world's population. associate States account for around a 4th of global GDP and trade has increased nearly a 100 times in 2 decades.
