Will Ukrainians be able to vote in the upcoming local elections?

narodowcy.net 1 year ago

As reported by Rzeczpospolita, The Ukrainian Union in Poland demands that Ukrainians be given electoral rights at least at the level of municipal authorities. The paper notes that the introduction of electoral rights for foreigners without Polish citizenship would require the amendment of the electoral code.

Prof. Tomasz T. Koncewicz, Head of the Department of European Law and Legal Comparatives at the University of Gdańsk, took the position. The prof. pointed out that EU law does not prohibit the extension of specified a law to nationals of another countries "unless this violates EU principles of loyalty, solidarity and respect for common interest". He adds that many EU countries have already granted voting rights in local elections. Koncewicz emphasizes that even if Ukrainians were granted rights in local elections, they would not apply to those closest, scheduled for 7 April 2024.

In the coming days, there are deadlines for these elections, e.g. by 22 February candidates for territorial election commissions should be submitted and by 14 March candidates for mayors, mayors and presidents of cities - he explains.

Another privilege for Ukrainian citizens

Uncontrollable and increased immigration of Ukrainian people into our country causes a progressive process of treating them not as guests but hosts. It can be noted that since the erstwhile government's term, Ukrainians have gained more and more privileges, starting with their release from public transport charges, ensuring precedence in line with the doctor, admission to school and university, aligning the validity of Polish Matura with Ukrainian, and ending with paying social and pension benefits. There is much evidence that the fresh ruling coalition will not halt there and give even more additional rights to our east neighbours. These actions are scandalous and lead to the destabilisation of the regular lives of Poles.

It should be noted that allowing strangers to participate in the political life of Poland is simply a simple way to destabilise the country. All people are primarily associated with the homeland and culture in which they were raised, and the country to which they have come for a profit is considered only in financial terms. Foreigners are in favour of raising social benefits or granting free housing, but as a consequence of the economical crisis caused by excessive donation, we will feel negative consequences, not immigrants who can return to their home country at any time. A large number of immigrants with electoral rights may besides pose a threat in the event of a conflict with the country from which they have landed. This is simply a simple way to the outbreak of civilian war, which best reflects the current situation in France and Sweden after the outbreak of the war in Israel. Muslim visitors are causing riots in European countries that have decided to support their ally in the mediate East. The claim that working, surviving and paying taxes in a country should automatically consequence in the granting of electoral rights is irrational, is simply a kind of emotional blackmail. You can't come to a abroad country and just work to buy political influence if you don't have real ties with this country.
