"Memoirs catalyze the reaction, on something it has to focus on – but what they represent, we remember. The monument, historical or contemporary, like any sculpture or painting, speaks to us only erstwhile we consciously look at it. It may remind us more of its creator than the event or the individual to whom it was dedicated. Everyone can see what they want in it, and ways of seeing evolve," writes Prof. Marcin Kula.
