"In bringing Saab 340 AEW aircraft into service, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland are gaining capabilities that they have never had before. They will increase the operational capabilities of the military itself, as well as increase the safety of the full country. On August 6, this year, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defence Paweł Bejda announced that the first crews to fly Saab 340 ABW aircraft had already completed training. In September, the machines are expected to accomplish first operational readiness, which means that they will start a regular flight}« reconnaissance, during which the armed forces will be able to “look” at as many as a fewer 100 kilometres deep beyond the borders of the country._We are entering a fresh level of reconnaissance that we had no access to before_Bejda wrote on social media.
So far, the military had only ground and ship radar. However, their reflection area and scope limit the alleged radiolocation horizon, so that they are incapable to detect low-flying objects specified as drones, helicopters or maneuvering missiles sufficiently early. This means much little time to react. The Erieye radar carried by the Saab 340 ABW aircraft with the active electronic scanning function (ABSA) changes this situation radically.”
