Their main task will be to pave the Abrams' way. The military bought M1150 ABV bomb tanks, which are utilized to destruct engineering dams and remove minefields. The transaction with the US side was concluded under an annex to the contract 2 years ago to acquisition Abrams M1A1. 25 bomb squad vehicles will scope the 18th Mechanized Division in Siedlce.
– Bomb tanks are units equipped with peculiar engineering and bomb systems that fight minefields, various types of safety and method infrastructure. They let roads for our land troops, including tanks," said Paweł Bejda, Deputy Minister of Defence. Deputy Chief of the MON took part in the ceremony of signing the annex to Agreements of 2023 to acquisition Abrams tanks. An additional agreement to this contract assumes that the Polish Army outside the tanks will besides buy 25 M1150 ABV (Assault Breacher Vehicle) bomb vehicles in the U.S. tank chassis M1A1 Abrams, along with logistics and training packages and spare parts. The paper was signed by Brig-Gen. Michał Marciniak, Deputy Head of the Armed Forces Agency in the presence of Colonel Richard Bush, Head of the U.S. Embassy Defence Cooperation Office.
Deputy Minister Bejda stressed that bombardment vehicles called "jobs" would be a major safety support for the armored troops. "With respect to land troops and armored troops, we are becoming a truly powerful force in Europe and a crucial force of NATO states," said the Deputy Chief of the MON. He added that the contract amounts to almost half a billion zlotys (about 115 million net dollars). The deliveries are to be made in 2029.
M1150 ABV (Assault Breacher Vehicle – ABV) is equipped with a peculiar rotating tower and depending on the task you can add to it plow and bomb plough. At the rear of the vehicle there is an elongated burden launcher serving to the distant (at a distance of up to 100–150 m in front of the vehicle) detonation of mines hidden under the ground layer. For self-defense, M1150 bomb tanks have a large caliber device weapon cal. 12.7 mm and a smoke grenade launcher. The vehicle shall be operated by 2 persons, the commander and the driver. – Automation and equipment make the bomb tank almost self-sufficient – emphasised Bejda.
