As early as May last year, the Czech government entrusted defence minister Janie Černochova with the launch of negotiations on the acquisition of 2A8 Leopards for land troops as part of a joint acquisition with the national Republic of Germany in a number of approximately[ 70 copies with support cars](https://defence24.pl/power-arms/early-negoti-purchase-newest-leopard). From the total, then available to purchase, a pool of 123 tanks so far only Germany obtained 18 copies, in order to replenish their states after handing Leopards 2A6 to Kiev. It has now been confirmed that out of the remaining 105 available tanks Prague will buy 76 wagons, leaving a possible volunteer (Netherlands?) 29 copies for a possible purchase. This decision means that the Czech army will not only completely replace its fleet of russian T-72M1 and T-72M4, but will besides be able to at least partially send owned Leopardy 2A4 to a shallow reserve (used, among others, to train reservists).
