Two weeks have passed since the National independency Day of Poland, erstwhile many patriotic manifestations have passed through our country. 1 of them was the “March of Poles” in Wrocław, which has been accompanied by the slogan “Poland in Poland host”. But does it truly reflect the real state of our homeland? Or is it just our wish?
Since the end of February 2022, we have observed an unprecedented event in Poland. We are talking about the mass exodus of Ukrainian people to our country. Even at the summit of the immigration crisis that hit Europe in 2015. Germany or France have not survived specified a mass influx of citizens of another countries. According to authoritative statistic Ukrainians surviving in our country already account for about 10% of the population. In large cities, this statistic is up to 30%!
In specified a proportion it is almost natural that there are various problems specified as social unrest, economical burden or wellness threats, due to the fact that respective tens of thousands of people with AIDS or resistant tuberculosis have already arrived in Poland. Crime is besides growing, the real property marketplace is being pressed, and it is increasingly hard to get a slingshot.
In the background of these problems, the subject of the Volyn crime, which has not yet been exhumed and officially apologized. For this we observe the shoe and ingratitude of Ukrainian authorities, which in fresh months have already challenged Poland to various tribunals and global arbitrations. But not only politicians behave arrogantly. Many local conflicts with Ukrainians end up with threats from their side in a bander spirit. Recently, at 1 of the border crossings, Ukrainians shouted "Slava Ukraine, smert lachom". The mystery of polyquinel is so the fact of the revival of the east cult of CNS/UPA. In this situation, it is not hard to conclude that strong Ukraine is not necessarily in the well understood interest of Poland. This is why it is more and more common to observe a extremist change of attitude between Poles and “guests from the east”. However, the majority of the Republic's society inactive shows large solidarity with the Ukrainians.
Which of these attitudes has a future? Are we building a lasting alliance of east Slavs, or are we just shooting a proverbial string on which they'll hang us in time? How do Poles find themselves in a fresh reality, in which Cyrillic and flag of a abroad state we see in our country more frequently than in Stalinist times? What attitude do the Ukrainians have toward a country that has shown them so much support and goodness, including the hard time for us all, and can we number on any gratitude on their part? This is what Samuel Torkowska will talk about present in the “Where We Go” series with the longtime organizer of the “March of Poles” in Wrocław, author of many books on Polish-Ukrainian themes, writer and publicist, Jacek Międlar.
