In fresh weeks, discussions have intensified on the possible resumption of dialogue, including at the highest level, between the European Union and its associate States and Russia. The context is to intensify the peace talks between the US, Ukraine and Russia. The request to return to specified talks was discussed, among others, by French president Emmanuel Macron in the fall of 2025 and again in January 2026. It was then supported by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
