9 The Braniewska Armored Cavalry Brigade is 1 of the units subordinate to the 16th Mechanized Division, which exploit the capabilities of the K2GF Black Panther. Of the 3 tank battalions, 1 is already full equipped with these machines, and this is only the beginning of the hardware modernization and acquisition of completely fresh capabilities by soldiers serving close the royal circuit.
Tank K2 Black Panther.
Seven Firsts K2GF Black Panther tanks came to Braniew in mid-November 2024. Since then, they have been armed with the full 1st Tank Battalion. Colonel Marcin Jankowski, commander of this sub-chapter, does not talk directly, how many K2 have his unit, but it is not a secret that the standard tank battalion consists of 58 wagons. This is the tank of the 21st century. Electronics, power, scope of fire make it incomparable with older PT-91 or T-72 tanks – emphasizes the officer who served on each of these platforms.
Starting to refit battalions 9 BKPanc from PT-91 to K2 is an effect agreement from 2022 to acquisition 180 K2GF Black Panther tanks. Deliveries (mainly to units of the 16th Mechanized Division) ended as planned in late 2025. Previously, the Armed Forces Agency signed a second executive agreement on the Black Panthers. Under its power, the Polish military will receive another 180 K2 tanks. Most (116 pieces) will be machines manufactured in South Korea in the GF (Gap Filler) version. But in addition, 64 platforms in K2PL variantof which only the first 3 will be produced in Asia. The agreement of 2025 assumes that the final assembly of 61 K2PL tanks (improved against K2GF, among others, with an active tank protection system, anti-drone strategy or reinforced armor) will take place by 2030 in Mechanical plants ‘Bumar-Łabada’.

Over the next 2 years, however, the Black Panthers will proceed to scope Poland in the K2GF variant. This means that the 2nd Tank Battalion will gradually control to a modern platform with PT-91. At the same time, there is no indication that Hardy would vanish completely from the 9th BKPanc soon. On the contrary, this Polish tank created on the basis of the russian T-72 is besides utilized by soldiers of the 3rd Tank Battalion. It is simply a division of 9 BKPanc formed in 2023, which is stationed in Elbląg. At the end of last year, the first theoretical and applicable training for 3 PT-91 crews began there. most likely in the coming months, another battleship from Elbląg will be training for the Tough Ones.
PT-91 Hard.
PT-91 has served in the Polish Army since 1995. Although it is now powerfully removed from modern K2 platforms, hard-core users inactive see their advantages, specified as comparatively tiny dimensions (the ease of hiding in the field) and the cognition of the plan (the ease of making many repairs), which is much simpler than in the electronics of the Black Panthers. Ukrainian soldiers who received dozens of specified tanks from Poland after the Russian invasion in 2022 besides spoke very positively about PT-91.
