Enthusiasm about the more assertive policies of the post-Soviet Central Asian republics towards Russia is premature, although of course it is worth continuing efforts to break up the Collective safety Agreement Organisation (ODKB), especially since this is fostered by the axing of Russian propaganda. At present, however, the only country clearly pulling towards the West is Armenia. In addition, China, Turkey and, to a lesser extent, Iran besides want to strengthen their influence in the region at the expense of Russia, without allowing the West there.
