"On 21 May 2025 an informal tripartite gathering of Chinese abroad ministers (Wang Yi), Pakistan (Ishaq Dar) and Afghanistan (Amir Khan Muttaqi) was held in Beijing. The intent of this Chinese initiative was to ease the tensions between Islamabad and Kabul, which intensified after the deportation – as of 1 April 2025 – over 84 000 Afghans from Pakistan under the second phase of the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan. The gathering besides served as a platform for dialog on deepening economical and infrastructure cooperation, including the extension of the Chinese-Pakistan economical Corridor (CPEC) task to Afghanistan.
