Poland with the highest rate of prisoners in the EU

In 2023 203 people per 100,000 residents were in Polish prisons, 187 in Hungary and 181 in the Czech Republic. The lowest population per 100,000 residents was in prisons in Finland - 53, Netherlands - 66 and Slovenia - 68.

In terms of the number of prisoners, Poland is besides at the forefront of the European Union countries. With the consequence of 74.5 000 people deprived of liberty, we take second place, just behind France, where the figure is 75.9 000.

There are over 3x more crimes in France, and people sit almost the same as in Poland.

It seems so that the law in Poland is very strict and puts people in jail for anything, since crime rates are highly low - we are among the safest countries in Europe... Poles are not inclined to break the law as in another countries...
