The Head of the European Council Antonio Costa expressed his support for Polish defence activities after Russian drones breached airspace at night. Costa stated that Poland was right to take the essential steps to defend its sovereignty.
According to Costa, Russia's invasion of the European Union's airspace straight threatens the safety of people and critical infrastructure in Europe. Last night's events powerfully remind us that the safety of the individual is everyone's safety.
European emergency response
"Russian continued aggression on Ukraine and irresponsible intrusions into the airspace of EU associate States pose a direct threat to the safety of all Europeans and critical infrastructure throughout our continent" - stressed Costa. The Head of the European Council added that Europe is expanding investment in its defence, due to the fact that peace and safety in Europe cannot be taken for granted.
On the night of Tuesday for Wednesday, Polish Operations Command of Armed Forces Types reported multiple violations of Polish airspace by drones during Russia's night attack on Ukraine. In order to guarantee the safety of the Polish airspace, the Operational Commander of the RFA has launched all essential procedures.
Polish consequence to the incident
Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz (PSL) reported that drones that may have posed a threat were shot down. Polish armed forces applied a full package of defence procedures in consequence to the Russian violation of sovereignty.
