F-35 aircraft in the Polish Army will be equipped with the state-of-the-art kind of air-to-air AIM-120D AMRAAM rockets, as provided by Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish on Thursday. The head of the MON denied that the government had a problem securing the financing of the acquisition of arms and confirmed that the contract would be signed within the required deadline, that is before 10 December of that year.
A fewer days ago, there were doubts in the media and political space whether Poland would be able to meet the deadline for signing an air-to-air rocket contract to F-35 aircraft. The consent of the U.S. administration to sale Poland this weapon obliges the parties (Polish government and RTX) to conclude the final agreement by 10 December of this year. “These things request to be explained quickly”, said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at today’s press conference. “In an urgent manner, I called the control squad and present it unanimously confirmed the acquisition by Poland of the latest AIM-120D AMRAAM missiles, radio-guided air-to-air missiles for F-35 aircraft,” said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish at today’s press conference.
The head of the MON assured that both the Ministry of Finance and Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego were ready to finance this purchase. The funds will come from the Armed Forces Support Fund. – Everything that has been the subject of a debate in the net or media area is not supported either by the Ministry of Finance or Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego – provided the Deputy Prime Minister.
Poland requested approval from the United States government to sale 400 AIM-120D-3 AMRAAM missiles, along with a logistics package (e.g. guidance modules, encryption devices or school-test rockets) last year. In the spring of 2025, arms exports to our country received approval of administration and Congress.
AIM-120D-3 AMRAAM is the latest version produced since the early 1990s of air-to-air missiles. The Polish Army has a model C in its equipment (AIM-120C-5 AMRAAM and AIM-120C-7 AMRAAM) which are utilized in Polish F-16 fighters.
Another kind of weapon that has already been contracted with the F-35 in head are GBU-39/B (SDB-I) glide bombs. The Agreement has been concluded during September International Defence manufacture Salon in Kielce.
