This is the last simple step in the revision of the Veterans Act for activities outside the state. Last night, with 435 Members' votes, the Parliament adopted a draft legislative act with amendments by the Committee on National Defence and the Committee on Public Finance. shortly the injured veterans will receive compensation: PLN 6,000 for 1% harm to health.
VIII Change of PKW Afghanistan - October, November 2010
Let us remind you that the first interministerial arrangements to Amendment of the Veterans Act held in the spring of 2024. Then there was a public consultation. The procedures for granting compensation were simplified and the first evidence was abandoned that only those missionaries whose wellness harm was above 30% would receive this benefit. The rule was adopted that for 1% of wellness damage, each veteran injured will receive PLN 6,000 – all he has to do is apply to the Minister of National Defence. And that evidence remained.
Compensation without policy
On May 20th of that year, the draft of the amended bill entered the Sejm. The further action went rather smoothly. "I would like to thank the Members of the Council for all the political options for the consensus during the work on the bill, there was neither controversy nor opposition, no 1 tried to practice politics," said rapporteur Paweł Suski (PO).
A full of 15 amendments were tabled at first and second reading during the legislative process. On Tuesday 8 July afternoon, the National Defence Committee and the Public Finance Committee recommended that the Sejm adopt 3 amendments. "They were not of a substantive nature, but more precise," said Paweł Suski. On Wednesday late evening, the full draft amendment was adopted unanimously by Members of Parliament.
– erstwhile the state sends a soldier to war, it cannot then order him to claim in court. This violates all the principles and dignity of a soldier or an officer," says Paweł Suski. As he emphasises, thanks to the amendment of the Act, compensation will be granted to the injured veteran by administrative decision. However, he may go on trial if he does not agree with this decision.
Not a symbolic gesture, but support
Victims' veterans enjoy the upcoming compensation payments. – This is not a symbolic gesture, but concrete support, which will importantly improve the life situation of many veterans. We are gaining more opportunities to finance treatment and rehabilitation, which we are sentenced to for the remainder of our lives," says Rafał Korzeniowski, Vice-President of the Wounded and Damaged Association in Missions outside the Borders of the Country. As he emphasises, the association has been seeking an amendment for years, which not only appreciates the sacrifice of soldiers who were injured while serving outside the country, but will besides supply them with financial compensation.
Work on fresh regulations is coming to an end. Now the bill goes to the Senate, which has 30 days to accept it, reject it or submit amendments. Then she will return to the Sejm. Veterans hope that, as in the lower home of Parliament, the work on the bill will run without controversy, and any possible doubts will be resolved for their benefit. Time will show whether it will be possible to adopt an amendment to the Veterans Act in July or August erstwhile the next session of the Sejm will be held.
The fresh rules will enter into force 14 days after publication in the authoritative diary of the Laws.
