The announcements of increased checks on beneficiaries of the Clean Air programme were announced early this year. This was linked to the detection of many irregularities which yet led to the temporary suspension of the programme and the preparation of its reform. The results of the verifications were yet revealed. They don't look good.

When are the controls from Clean Air? many irregularities translated into immense returns of grants
Checks on people who have benefited from Clean Air are not news. According to the rules, they may take place at any time up to 5 years after the investment has been made, with beneficiaries always being informed in advance. The fact is, however, that these measures have been taken more frequently recently. Unfortunately, this was the right decision. The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) as a consequence of the inspections carried out in 2024 and the first 4th of 2025 has already declared 1.4 1000 contracts concluded under the programme. Clean air. Another 652 cases are situations where grants have not been full withdrawn but have been reduced. In the end, beneficiaries must return as much as PLN 40.9 million in total. The most common findings are:
inflating investment costs,
failure to meet the method requirements,
exceeding the time limits for carrying out the task or clearing the advance,
leaving old inefficient heat sources in buildings;
dismantling the equipment for which support has been granted.
But this is not the end of the problems with the program.

What to be careful about with the Clean Air grant? Contractors pay attention to the problem with the performance of tasks
It appears that the checks carried out affect not only unfair beneficiaries but besides contractors in general. This is primarily about months of late payment for services rendered. This was noted by entrepreneur Michał Sobczyk, who sent an open letter to the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Climate and Environment and the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (WFOŚIGW).
Delays exposure us to immense financial difficulties and endanger the continued functioning of our companies
- emphasizes Sobczyk in the letter quoted by "DGP". At this link we will find a letter addressed to president Andrzej Duda. Let us remind that the problem of the deficiency of payment of funds from the programme was besides raised during the gathering of representatives of the NFOŚiGW with journalists in February this year. We wrote about this in item in the preceding article. As of March 31, 2025, Clean Air began to operate on fresh principles.
