The justice of the Tirana Court of Appeal was shot on Monday by a man active in a lawsuit, reported police in Albania. The assailant escaped from the scene, but was later arrested.
According to police, justice Astrid Kalaja was shot in the courtroom by a 30-year-old suspect. Kalaja died en way to the hospital.
Police reported that the perpetrator besides shot 2 another people active in the trial. Their injuries were not life-threatening.
The authorities did not supply details of the motive or nature of the case. The case described on the court's website afraid real estate.
Police later detained a fishy who escaped after the shooting, and besides found the revolver he was about to use.
Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama described Kalaji's death as a "tragic event" and stated that it should prompt a "reflection" of the court's safety system.
In a message published on X Rama, he called for tougher penalties for firearms offences. The judge's killer should bear “the strictest punishment foreseen by law” – he wrote.
