– You fought for our freedom. Without you, we surely wouldn't be where we are right now. You are a model for all generations," said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, during the ceremony commemorating the 82nd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. The event on the Main Campus was attended by Heroes from the conflict Group AK “Krybar”, representatives of the university and the community of Warsaw.

82 years ago, on the day of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, the 8th Grouping of the 1st territory of the AK Warsaw-Śródmieście Oblast attempted to reflect the University of Warsaw from the hands of the occupying German troops. On 5 August, the group was merged with 2 another units, forming the conflict Group “Krybar”. Subsequent attempts to take over the territory of the University were made on 23 August and 2 September.

Every year the University of Warsaw, together with the environment of the conflict Group “Krybar” of the planet National Army Soldiers Association, organizes anniversary celebrations on the Main Campus at the plaque commemorating the Heroes of those events.

– You have shown what human dignity and love for the country is. You fought for our freedom. Without you, we surely wouldn't be where we are right now. You are a model for all generations," said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, addressing Heroes in August 1944.

The events of 82 years ago were discussed by prof. Jerzy Gadźcki Pseudod. “Dołąb”, president of the Environment of Soldiers of the conflict Group “Krybar” in the planet Union of Soldiers AK: – Warsaw insurgents fought bravely and self-sacrificely. They lost their wellness and frequently their lives – their own and their loved ones. They lost their lives without knowing their future. They fought for Poland – a dream, independent, free Poland.

– The past of the Main Campus of the University of Warsaw and the “Krybar” Group fighting here 82 years ago reminds us that freedom starts with work for another man. Therefore, the safety of the community, common work and courage never lose their importance. These are values we gotta take care of all day, with respect for the past and work for the future," says Robert Grey, Chancellor of the University of Warsaw.

Under the plaque commemorating the “Krybar” Group, the flowers were presented by: Rector of the University of Warsaw Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, president of the Environment of Soldiers of the militant group “Krybar” in the planet Union of Soldiers of the AK Prof. Jerzy Gabźcki, manager of the Mazowieckie Provincial Office in Warsaw Paweł Cukrowski, spokesperson for the European Funds Łukasz Kołodziejski (on behalf of the Marshal of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship Adam Struzik), Municipal defender (on behalf of the president of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski), Marshal of the Parliament of Students of the University of Warsaw Mikołaj Chmielak (on behalf of the Government of the Students of the University of Warsaw), president of the Government of Doctoral Officers Justyna Jaworska and Magdalena Filipek (on behalf of the University of Warsaw Doctoral Council), Vice-President of the Trade Union of the University of Warsaw “Solidarność UW działmiją Ści nr. Soldiers of the Army of the National Combat Group “Krybar” with the participation of the manager of Beata Ostastowska, as well as deputy manager of the home of Insurgents of the Warsaw Centre of Intergenerational Activity of Nowolipie Lech Uliasz together with representation of employees and volunteers.

The ceremony was conducted by the press spokesperson of the University of Warsaw Dr. Anna Modzelewska. Insurgents, authorities of the University of Warsaw, academic community and residents of the capital took part in the event on the Main Campus. Among the guests of the ceremony were prof. Zbigniew A. Kruszewski (participants of the Warsaw Uprising, lecturer at the University of Texas in El Paso) and writer Andrzej Poczobut.

The celebration was celebrated by the performance of the Warsaw University Academic Choir conducted by Wojciech Pławner, who performed insurgent songs: Password Powiśla, Hey, guys., Midtown March and Warsaw Children.
