"Diseases, killed birds, ugly views..." We ask in a tiny municipality what the windmills do

natemat.pl 10 hours ago
Amazon's logistics center is being built here. This is where his mill is expected to build Bosch. This is where photovoltaic and wind farms were to be built. For a tiny municipality with 5,000 inhabitants, that sounds great? I'm sure. But that imagination frightened any people. This is the Good Lord. A municipality where the mayor is behind windmills and a group of residents is not. The microscale shows the problem that Poland lives after the presidential veto.

– If the windmill is 260 metres high, it will be taller than the Palace of Culture. And then I, sitting in front of my house, will see his propellers spinning from a distance of 4 km – says a resident of the municipality of Dobromierz.

This is where the windmills have been boiling for months. People divided up and politics got involved. The protagonist of protests against windmills was Anna Zalewski, the Euro MP of PiS. tv Republic besides came to Dobromier.

– Windmills are advancement we can't avoid. but I'll only see a part of the fan, and individual who lives close will see it all. It's interference in the landscape. What people have been looking at their full lives. They had a beautiful view, and abruptly there was a hot prairie and a windmill standing for them – the man adds.

Would the windmills bother you if they were close your house?

In Dobromier in Lower Silesia there would be 14 windmills, but there was specified a storm that present nothing is doomed. That's why here, after Karol Nawrocki's veto, we check why people are so afraid of windmills.

Let us emphasize immediately – not everyone. The image that all of Dobromier does not want windmills is false. We find quite a few people who say they either don't mind, or they don't care at all.

– Would the windmills bother you if they were close to your house? – I ask.

I don't think so. If they want to find cheaper electricity, let them buy. But on the another hand, it's disrupting the landscape. There is no golden center – 1 of the inhabitants reacts.

Some say they don't know what to think anymore. They besides have no thought whether the current would be cheaper, but on the another hand they see that this is the trend in Europe.

– I'm behind the windmills. But I'll take most of the people's decision. I don't have a problem with anyone opposed. However, I see the another side has a problem that I am in favour. Even the Euro MP Anna Zalewska, who told me straight that she did not like it, says Jerzy Ulbin, the mayor of the commune.

In TVP3, Wrocław Zalewski said about him: "It's always like there's a plan B. And the thing is, there's gonna be a motion to cancel the mayor.

By the way – and it is worth pointing out immediately for the full knowing of the situation – there is simply a image of the municipality in which PiS wins (Karol Nawrocki won 59:40 percent here with Rafał Trzaskowski, likewise with Andrzej Duda). But since 2010, it has been ruled by the mayor Jerzy Ulbin, who is not on his way.

As his cooperation with the Government of the United Right worked out, let the fact that in 45 communes of the territory of Wałbrzych was 45th in terms of the funds received, among others, from RFIL and the Polish Government.

Today, due to the windmills, the municipality is again politically used. That's how any people feel. – Ultimately, it is an election game before the 2027 parliamentary elections, to the European Parliament and to the local government in 2029 – says the mayor.

How many people are against windmills?

Let us recall, on August 21, the president vetoed the alleged Wind Wind Act, which was to lower the electricity prices, which outraged Prime Minister and Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka.

According to Nawrocki, renewable energy sources cannot reduce electricity prices, but we should "get distant from Green Deal".

– In this bill, I was most afraid that many farms in Poland, many socialists protested against it. It is apparent that people do not want 150-metre winds on their farms," explained the President.

And in Dobromier, the protest seems solid.

Although the mayor says this: – I estimation that against windmills there can be only about 10% of the inhabitants of the municipality. That doesn't mean they don't like the full municipality. The most common thing is that 80% of society is behind something. 15 percent don't know what to think. And 5 percent is always a problem.

The municipality has about 5,000 inhabitants.

"Stop for Windmills and Mines in Dobromierz Municipality" – that's why residents protest

On Facebook a group of "Stop for Windmills and Mines" was formed in Dobromierz Municipality. On banners in punks, they exchange what they do not agree to:

Destruction of our countryside

Declining the value of our land

Noise and shading

Destruction of agriculture

Thousands of tires under our windows

In conversation with TVP3 Wrocław residents developed their arguments like this:

– Behind my house, precisely 700 meters from my window, there are to be 4 windmills. We don't agree to that. That's why we chose a place to live in silence, peace, in a safe place – for our children, for our grandchildren.

– After all, technological investigation is that more than 2 kilometers from windmills people get sick, animals get sick, and we have 500 meters from home these windmills.

– The municipality has tourist and recreational advantages. We'll lose them forever due to these investments.

– Residents are besides afraid to install old German windmills. They are afraid of the impact on diseases, on birds that break up over them," says the mayor.

Facts and myths about windmills – do they harm health?

There are facts and myths about windmills everywhere. They're huge. Let's just quote a fewer explanations from manufacture services.

On its website Greenpeace explains, among others: Myth: 500 meters is dangerous for people, windmills will make sound and produce destructive infrasounds. Fact: The windmills at 500 meters are safe for humans and nature.

Energy portal24.com on noise:

"The level of sound emitted by turbines is not harmful to human health. As far as 300 m from the turbine, it is 35-45 dB, which is about the same as the fridge. It's little than a permissible road sound standard, averaged for 8 hours, or 56 dB".

RES planet Service on alleged shimmering shadows that could possibly feel people delicate to visual stimuli:

The municipality responds: – I see benefits. But I besides have concerns. I'm in the middle. Adversaries usage arguments based on sources not necessarily supported by technological evidence. frequently it's information ripped out of context, but they make proverbial "hello". Do what? We didn't anticipate it to get this big. There's been a divided in the municipality. It's not essential to make problems now. There's no gold middle.

The mayor talked to tv Republic. "They didn't let it go."

The protest group wrote a petition that was reported to have been signed by about a 1000 people. On 12 August, they held a referendum initiative in the Municipal Office. In addition to windmills, questions would besides concern migrant centres, photovoltaic panels, fresh granite mines, due to the fact that they do not want these in their homes either.

– The initiators are talking about a petition, but I haven't seen it. I think a 1000 signatures are a lie. Will there be a referendum? I don't know. It's just an initiative for now. They have six weeks to collect signatures – the mayor Jerzy Ulbin reacts.

The case was smelled by tv Republic. They arrived in mid-August, with a communicative about Tusk's "energy blackmail". The mayor met with her journalist, answered questions.

– I clearly said I was for windmills, but I respect the majority. But they didn't let it go. I haven't seen my speech anywhere. I fishy that the writer was looking for a sensation, that I would either not meet him or refuse to give information," says Jerzy Ulbin.

Anna Zalewski: "I support residents in the fight against windmill construction"

A group of windmill opponents powerfully announced this relationship. Thank you to Anna Zalewski. "Thank you for your continued support of the Euro MPs", you can read. Together with tv Republika she besides appeared before the Municipal Office.

"I am in Dobromier and I support the inhabitants in the fight against windmill construction," "I'm with you and I'll be with you till the end! We must halt madness!" – she thundered on social media.

Previously, the Euro MP of PiS, the erstwhile Minister of Education liable for her deformity, arrived here in June. It was her, as described by INNPoland, that in 2016 she blocked the improvement of wind energy in Poland.

– The gathering was very lively. There were various words coming down towards the municipal authorities, councillors who were behind windmills and farmers who were to sign any agreements. It was clearly a shot meeting. I had mixed feelings. Those who were behind the windmills and wanted to talk were brought to the ground floor. In my opinion, it is the 1 that turns on emotions – 1 of the residents thinks.

Interestingly, as they tell us in Dobromier, there was besides PiS MP Ireneusz Profit, who advocated windmills. His statements are appreciated by our speakers as good, concrete and factual.

"Among the people who have signed contracts are besides PiS and Karol Nawrocki voters"

In any case, more or little since the visit of the Euro MP Zalewski, the subject exploded, although it was known respective months earlier. The municipality was even preparing to do a survey among the residents. She was expected to do it on June 22 in all the villages.

– But on June 15, Mrs. Zalewska arrived in Dobromier. During the meeting, windmill opponents demanded that this deadline be postponed to September/October. If it wasn't for that, we'd be long gone. So the question: if everyone is against windmills, why were they afraid of this survey in June? – asks the question of the mayor.

Everyone is waiting for the consequence of this survey in the fall.

Interestingly, as the mayor says, any residents have already signed location contracts with a company that applied for windmills for the general plan. The plan has not yet been developed, so the construction of windmills is not yet established.

– But that's the procedure. Companies have been blocking each other's seats before. Among the people who signed the contracts are besides voters of PiS and Karol Nawrocki. No 1 who is "in favour", especially those who have any interest in it, wants to lay low now to say that they want windmills," says Jerzy Ulbin.

How much can you gain by renting land under a windmill?

– It is referred to as PLN 150-160 1000 per year. Everything depends on the location of the windmill and the impact of the propeller. In our country, there was an effort to break it down so that 4-5 landowners would participate. In specified a situation it is about 50 1000 PLN per year. In 30 years it is PLN 1.5 million – it corresponds.

War on windmills. Why the Context Could Be Political

There is no uncertainty what lies behind the storm around the windmills in Dobromier. And what he says fits into a pattern that we described in July on Theme. It's about the rash of referendums all over the country and trying to callback quite a few mayors, mayors, or full municipal councils. Very frequently in another municipalities there are councillors associated with PiS.

Jerzy Ulbin has been a mayor for 15 years.

– Before the election, even the PiS supporters told me to run for election. They know I'm not a PiS supporter, but they appreciate my work rationally," he says.

– But now the committee that lost the election in 2024 is not giving up. Everything that's happening right now is connected to him. Why? How about a referendum? possibly they won't gotta wait 4 years for the next election. We'll see – he thinks.

Today, as he says, the councilmen of this committee are inactive filling with requests for access to public information. There are a fewer things in the WSA. And at a time erstwhile they're swamped at the office with another job, involving arming the investor zone, they gotta do it.

We have an economical zone. We want to set up the commune for years. There's Amazon in intensive construction. Bosch got a construction permit, so far he's stopped work this year, but he's interested. This is future money that makes us independent from political influence in the future," he says.

Then he recalls what he experienced during the Law and Justice.

The mayor says he'll fight and not give up.

In fact, specified voices in another parts of the municipality are besides heard. And against photovoltaics, and against the full zone. For example:

We live in a peaceful, average community. And if there's Amazon, we're about to find out half the world's gonna be working here.

The subject so seems much wider.

However, Jerzy Ulbin does not break hands. He says if the villagers want to cancel it, that's fine. But he'll fight and not give up. He besides points out that he would like to talk about the zone, what they do in Dobromier and what was done in the municipality. Not the subject that divides society.
