China has provided Cuba with 80 000 bicycle parts to "relieve the transportation difficulties of the Cubans", announced the Chinese embassy in Havana. Communist Cuba is in a deep fuel crisis.
The Chinese ambassador to Cuba, Hua Xin, attended the ceremonial handover of bicycle parts, written in an embassy message.
The independent Cuban portal Cibercuba stressed that the aid was provided at a time erstwhile Cuba faces major fuel shortages, which translate, inter alia, into a simplification in the operation of public transport. For people who gotta commute to work, school or another places all day, bikes can be an alternate to increasingly little frequent buses – he assessed the portal.
The embassy message does not give details of the kind of parts transferred. It has not been written how many bicycles can be repaired with them, or how these parts will be distributed. The embassy, on the another hand, stressed that the aid was announced during a fresh visit of the Chinese delegation on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Cuban revolution leader Fidel Castro.
"No substance how the global scenery changes, China remains a reliable friend of Cuba and will proceed to supply assistance under its capabilities, supporting Cuba with concrete actions to defend its national sovereignty and independency and advance global justice," said Hua, quoted in the Communication.
