Chinese cars in Europe – the number of factories is growing

chiny24.com 1 year ago

Leading Chinese car manufacturers (especially electric) are working intensively to find their production facilities in Europe and its immediate vicinity

The largest of these producers, the BYD Motor corp (chin. 比亚迪汽车股份有限公司) concluded appropriate agreements which will consequence in the construction of a assembly plant in Turkey.

Chinese cars will start coming down from the assembly line in 2026. BYD Motor corp has its bus mill in Hungary, where a passenger car manufacturing plant is being built. This mill will start producing series BYD cars in the second half of 2025.

In turn ShangHai Automotive manufacture Group Co., Ltd. (SAIC, chin. 上海汽车工业集团有限公司), a giant Chinese automotive industry, reported that by the end of September it would decide to find its European factory, which would start production by 2027. Representatives of this company negociate with Spain. But there are parallel talks with Hungary and the Czech Republic, which, as the Chinese claim in the published communication, are attractive due to the low cost of production and workers.

Why do BYD, or SAIC not include Poland in their plans? That's the question I leave unanswered.

At the end of May, the pilot production of a tiny Chinese electrical car Leapmotor T03 began in Tychy. The car was created in collaboration with the company Stellantis (owner of the mill in Tychy) with the brand Leapmotor from China. In the autumn of last year, Stellantis invested EUR 1.5 billion in Leapmotor, gaining 20% of Chinese start-up shares. In May this year a joint venture Leapmotor global was established. Stellantis has 51% stake in it and Leapmotor has 49% stake in it.

In September, regular production of T03 will begin. The cars will be assembled in Tychy from a finished, pre-assembled set of parts coming from China.

The T03 Leapmotor mounted in China will be sold in Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Romania. The car will not be available in Poland for now.

Stellantis ceased in Tychy of Fiat production, offered Chinese partner production at its plants. And that's the only reason the 1000 bets can go on. I get the impression that Poland does not have an independent force to attract Chinese investors. It seems that in the case of possible Chinese investors this is always done by someone, indirectly, accidentally. possibly it is simply a deficiency of any concept of cooperation with China. possibly it is the deficiency of any concept of the improvement of motorization in Poland.
