China with a fresh base in Africa?

Three Chinese warships including the destroyer Nanning arrived at the port of Lagos, Nigeria along with nearly a battalion of soldiers. Officially, the visit is aimed at improving diplomatic relations between Nigeria and China. Unofficially, it is said that the Gulf of Guinea could be a base for the Chinese military, according to Reuters.
