The skyscrapers became a symbol of the improvement and prestige of Chinese cities. They are to represent the achievements of economical development, entrepreneurship, architectural invention, prove the city's wealth, organizational capacity of municipal authorities and construction companies.

In the last 2 decades in China, hundreds, thousands of highlanders have been launched into the sky. According to the latest planet Tall Building and Urban Habitat Society (CTBUH), China has the largest number of skyscrapers in the world, as many as 3088. Among 25 cities with the largest number of skyscrapers in the world, 12 are Chinese cities.

Hong Kong ranks first in this ranking, with 657 buildings up to 150 metres advanced and 6 above 300 metres high.

Second place is ShenZhen with 513 buildings up to 150 m and 16 above 300 m.

The 3rd is fresh York City with 437 skyscrapers.

In the top ten, there are inactive more Chinese cities:

  • in 5th place GuangZhou: 265 predators
  • at 6. Shanghai: 255 high-rises,
  • at 8. ChongQing 210 super tall buildings and
  • On 10. WuHan 188 high-rises.

In 2015, Asia surpassed the United States in terms of the number of super tall buildings held.

Burj Khalifa in Dubai (United arabian Emirates) is the tallest building in the world, with 828 m and 163 floors.

Second place is ShangHai Tower (上海中心) – 632 m advanced and 128 floors.

In China, there was a kind of race of city management cities, and sometimes large districts, of primacy as regards the number of skyscrapers and their height. It became so worrying that in 2022 the State Committee on improvement and improvement (国家发展和改革委员会) intervened, which, due to safety considerations, environmental considerations and economical assumptions (efficiency and profitability of specified investments) issued regulations governing the construction of super skyscrapers.

They set out requirements for the construction of buildings over 250 metres and at the same time prohibited the construction of skyscrapers over 500 metres high.

Experts say that this change is likely to end the "more, higher, higher" era in Chinese construction. The economical downturn, which is increasingly felt, can besides contribute to halting this trend.

But does inhibition mean permanent change? Not necessarily. Local authorities will surely find a way to impress with fresh architectural designs up to 250 metres in size.
