The latest data published by the Ministry of civilian Affairs (民政部) shows that the number of fresh married couples registered in China increased in the first 4th of that year to 2.147 million pairs, which means an increase of 4% y/y. At the same time, the number of divorces besides increased. A 641 1000 divorce decisions were issued, a 20% increase compared to the first 4th of 2022.
The recorded increase in registered fresh marriages is the first increase since 2013. That year there were 13,469 million married couples.
The average age of a man who had his first matrimony in 2022 was 28.8 and women were 27.5.
Among the main causes of late matrimony are the change in Chinese lifestyle, concerns about matrimony sustainability and advanced wedding costs.
The apparent consequence of the falling number of permanent, formal relationships is the decrease in the birth rate of children. More and more young people in China decide to stay single and childless.
In subsequent quarters, it will be revealed that the observed growth is the beginning of a affirmative trend, or only an anomaly in the process observed for years.
