China announces it is 'ready to fight' to choke off Taiwan independence

The Chinese army, after completing three-day large-scale manoeuvres around Taiwan, said Monday that it was “ready to fight.” The exercises simulated a blockade of the island and followed a visit by the president of Taiwan to the US.
