Khark, a tiny island off the coast of Iran in the north of the Persian Gulf, became the subject of American attacks and warnings due to its strategical importance. There is simply a key infrastructure for Tehran – 90 percent of Iranian oil exports flow through the island.
In a Saturday NBC News interview, president Donald Trump stated that the island was almost "totally destroyed".
Earlier on Saturday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that US forces hit over 90 military targets on the island of Khark. Donald Trump himself wrote on the fact Social platform, among others, that military targets on the island were completely destroyed, but "for reasons of decency" decided not to destruct oil terminals, "although he could do so in seconds." He warned that this decision would change immediately if Iran disrupted shipping through the crucial global trade in natural materials in the Ormuz Strait. Donald Trump besides referred to Khark as “a jewel in the crown” of the Iranian oil industry.
