Changes in the criteria for granting widow’s pension. No more "unfair and discriminatory" rules stripping thousands of widows and widowers. Case on the desk of president Karol Nawrocki
Zdjęcie: Zmiany w kryteriach przyznawania renty wdowiej. Koniec z pozbawianiem świadczenia tysięcy wdów i wdowców przez „niesprawiedliwe i dyskryminujące” przepisy. Sprawa na biurku Prezydenta Karola Nawrockie
The current criteria for granting widow’s pension make thousands of widows and widowers incapable to receive this benefit, even though they meet almost all the required conditions. The key problem concerns the provision that the right to a survivor's pension after a deceased spouse can be acquired no earlier than 5 years before reaching the retirement age – that is, before the age of 55 for women and 60 for men. This record, described by curious parties as "unfair and discriminatory", became the subject of a petition addressed on 27 August 2025 to the president of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki.
