HYDERABAD- Hong Kong’s flag carrier Cathay Pacific (CX) resumed operations from Hyderabad (HYD) this week, with 3 weekly flights after suspending services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The airline recorded impressive load factors immediately upon relaunch, with the first flight on Sunday achieving approximately 75% passenger capacity and full cargo load, while the second flight on Thursday operated at 100% capacity for both passengers and cargo.

Cathay Pacific Hyderabad Flights
Cathay Pacific (CX) plans to increase flight frequency from Hyderabad (HYD) to 5 weekly flights by September 2025, matching its pre-pandemic service level. This expansion comes in response to strong demand and high load factors observed since the resumption of operations.
“Hyderabad’s economic rise and growing outbound travel demand make it a vital addition to our network.”
Rakesh Raicar, Regional General Manager for South Asia, Middle East and Africa, Cathay Pacific
With Hyderabad’s readdition, Cathay Pacific (CX) now operates 39 weekly flights from five Indian cities – Delhi (DEL), Mumbai (BOM), Bengaluru (BLR), Chennai (MAA), and Hyderabad (HYD). This number will increase to 43 weekly flights once the Hyderabad frequency expansion takes effect in September.

Travelers from Hyderabad
Traffic from Hyderabad is primarily driven by multiple passenger segments, including business and corporate travelers, leisure tourists, visitors connecting with friends and family abroad, and students pursuing international education.
Cathay Pacific (CX) is particularly popular among the Telugu diaspora for onward connections to North America, Australia, and New Zealand.
The airline’s strategic resumption in Hyderabad (HYD) responds to both economic factors and passenger demand, strengthening its position in the Indian aviation market as international travel continues to recover from pandemic disruptions.

Cathay Pacific’s Indian Operations
Cathay Pacific (CX) maintains a strong presence across major Indian metropolitan centers. The airline operates regular services from Delhi (DEL) and Mumbai (BOM), which serve as its primary Indian gateways, with multiple weekly flights.
Bengaluru (BLR) and Chennai (MAA) services cater to the growing business travel segment and technology sector connections between India and Hong Kong, as well as onward destinations.
The carrier has strategically positioned its Indian routes to capture both point-to-point traffic and connecting passengers traveling to destinations in North America, Australia, and East Asia.
Each route features carefully scheduled departure and arrival times to facilitate smooth connections through Cathay Pacific’s Hong Kong (HKG) hub, allowing travelers from all Indian gateways to access the airline’s extensive global network with minimal connection times.

The airline currently operates 13 dedicated freighter services per week from various Indian cities. However, Hyderabad lacks freighter service due to restrictions in bilateral agreements between the governments.
Despite these limitations, the airline utilizes belly cargo capacity on passenger flights to support Hyderabad’s shipping needs.
