Cathay Pacific Restarts Adelaide Flights

Cathay Pacific’s decision to resume its non-stop winter flights to Adelaide signals a strategic step in reinforcing its regional presence.

The service, operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from Hong Kong, and returning on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, enhances travel access during the winter season.

This return reconnects a route initially launched in 1992 and continues a historic link between Cathay Pacific and South Australia, including a 30-year collaboration with Flight Training Adelaide, where many of the airline’s cadet pilots have trained.

With this addition, Cathay Pacific will operate close to 90 return flights weekly to and from the Southwest Pacific at peak season, reinforcing its role as a key carrier for both outbound and inbound travel.

Cathay Pacific has confirmed the following schedule for its Adelaide service, effective from 11 November 2025 to 27 March 2026.

The flights will be subject to regulatory approval and are scheduled using local times:

Flight No.OriginDestinationDepartureArrivalDays of Operation
CX173 Hong Kong (HKG) Adelaide (ADL) 23:30 10:30 (+1) Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
CX174 Adelaide (ADL) Hong Kong (HKG) 12:00 17:40 Wednesday, Friday, Sunday

Flights will be operated using the Airbus A350-900, offering three cabin classes, Business, Premium Economy, and Economy, ensuring a comfortable travel experience across all segments.

Enhanced Cargo Capacity

In addition to passenger convenience, the new Adelaide (ADL) service boosts cargo logistics through aircraft belly capacity.

This complements Cathay Cargo’s existing two weekly freighter flights to the Southwest Pacific during winter, supporting trade and e-commerce demand between the region and global markets accessible via Cathay’s hub in Hong Kong (HKG).

The reintroduction of direct air cargo options between Adelaide and Hong Kong adds value for exporters and importers in sectors such as seafood, pharmaceuticals, and high-value perishables, key commodities in South Australia’s export portfolio.

Global Network Expansion

Cathay Pacific and its subsidiary HK Express (UO) are collectively adding 16 new destinations to their global network in 2025.

Adelaide joins recent additions like Hyderabad (HYD), Dallas (DFW), and Urumqi (URC), with upcoming launches planned for Rome (FCO), Munich (MUC), and Brussels (BRU) later in the year.

Together, the Cathay Group aims to serve 100 global passenger destinations by mid-2025, reinforcing Hong Kong (HKG) as a premier aviation hub connecting Asia with Oceania, Europe, and the Americas.
