The Metropolitan Opera has enjoyed the opinion of the world's most crucial opera scene for decades. This myth, effectively created by Rudolf Bing (director of the Met from 1950 to 1972) has long missed reality. Today, another conviction falls: Metropolitan is simply a dollars-rich theatre.
