Candidate for Canadian ambassador asked if it is simply a sovereign state

Candidate for U.S. ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra was asked about his opinion on president Donald Trump's calling it the 51st state. He said that "Canada is simply a sovereign state." He besides stated that he "spent quite a few time thinking" about how to repair relations with Canada.
