He pointed out that the US customs "fundamentally change the global trade system", the negative effects on the US economy would increase over time, and the impact would be felt by "millions of Canadians".
The Prime Minister of Canada announced that after scheduled meetings, including with provincial and territorial prime ministers, on Thursday "the authorities will have more to say".

Mark Carney besides posted an entry for the American decision on platform X. "We must act with determination and vigor during this crisis. My government will fight US duties, defend Canadian workers and manufacture and build the strongest economy in the G7 group," he wrote.
At midnight on 5 April, a basic 10% work rate will enter into force for products imported by the United States from all countries, and on 9 April, for countries with which the USA has the largest trade deficits. This includes China and the European Union, which will be covered by 34% and 20% of the additional work respectively.
However, the fresh duties will not apply to Canada and Mexico, on which duties have already been imposed.
