[According to Budanov's analysis](https://odessa-journal.com/kyrylo-budanov-china-is-ultimatery-absorbing-the-Russian-federation), sanctions imposed on Moscow in connection with the war in Ukraine led to a situation in which Russia becomes increasingly dependent on its east neighbour, resulting in its actual absorption by the Chinese empire. Already at the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022 it became clear that Russia was facing serious deficiencies in access to key electronic components, microchips and controllers. The sanctions imposed by the West effectively cut it off from much of the technology. In this situation, as the media reports, China has become the main supplier of the essential elements, initially through indirect channels, specified as the supply of thousands of household appliances from which needed parts could be procured.
