Bucharest mayor Nicosor Dan leads the second circular of presidential elections in Romania, winning 52.20% of the vote, while the leader of the opposition organization Alliance for Romanian Unity (AUR) George Simion obtained 47.80% of the votes, according to data from the Central Electoral Commission after 75% of the votes.
A second circular of presidential elections will be held in Romania on Sunday. The first circular of elections was held on 4 May. The most votes were won by the leader of the Nationalist organization Alliance for Romanian Unity (AUR) George Simion (41%) and Mayor of Bucharest Nicosor Dan (21%).
After processing 75% of the votes, data from the Central Election Commission show that Dan received 52.20% of the votes and Simion 47.80%.
The presidential elections in Romania in 2025 are held during the political crisis triggered by the annulment of the results of the first circular of 2024 in which the independent candidate Calin Georgescu prevailed, but the vote consequence was cancelled due to alleged interference in the election process via social media. This decision sparked protests in the country and accusations of suppression of opposition by the Romanian authorities, among others from the US administration.
