LONDON- British Airways (BA) has launched a limited-time sale offering 40% to 45% off Avios redemptions on select reward flights. Travelers can enjoy reduced Avios pricing on eligible economy and short-haul business class bookings from key airports, including London Heathrow (LHR), London City (LCY), and more.

The offer is valid for flights booked by 23 July 2025 for travel between 1 August 2025 and 11 February 2026, excluding peak holiday dates. Avios discounts apply only to the mileage portion, with taxes and fees remaining unchanged.

British Airways Major Reward Flight Discount

British Airways (BA) has announced a rare Reward Flight Sale offering 40% off Avios redemptions across select short-haul and long-haul routes.

On some routes, this discount increases to 45%, representing a significant saving for Avios collectors looking to travel between 1 August 2025 and 11 February 2026.

The sale covers both peak and off-peak dates in economy class across the global network and Club Europe business class for short-haul flights.

However, premium economy, long-haul business, and first class cabins are excluded from the offer. According to Head for Points, British Airways rarely runs these reward sales, with the last significant event occurring in late 2020.

To qualify, bookings must be made by Wednesday, 23 July 2025. The discount is applied automatically when booking eligible flights using Avios through the British Airways Executive Club.

The reduced Avios prices are displayed directly in the flight search results; no promotional code is required.

Key Route and Information

Not all routes or airports are included in the promotion. For instance, the Dubai (DXB) route currently offers only a 10% discount.

British Airways has published a list of participating destinations on its website, highlighting 30 cities departing from London Heathrow (LHR).

Examples of routes receiving the full 45% discount include:

Destination Fare (New) Fare (Original)
Cologne (CGN) £1 + 10,175 Avios £1 + 18,500 Avios
Jersey (JER) £1 + 10,175 Avios £1 + 18,500 Avios
Budapest (BUD) £1 + 12,925 Avios £1 + 23,500 Avios
Madeira (FNC) £1 + 15,125 Avios £1 + 27,500 Avios
Barbados (BGI) £150 + 33,000 Avios £150 + 60,000 Avios

In many cases, the discounts apply in both directions, making one-way or round-trip redemptions equally valuable. For example, a one-way Toronto (YYZ) to London Heathrow flight in economy drops from 25,000 Avios to 15,000 Avios, plus £50 in taxes.

Travelers can combine British Airways American Express 2-4-1 Companion Vouchers with this offer. However, reports on whether Barclays Upgrade Vouchers are compatible remain inconclusive.

Caution is advised when considering cancellation of existing Avios bookings. British Airways does not guarantee seat reavailability, and a cancellation fee of £35 or the taxes paid (whichever is lower) applies.

The recommended approach is to secure the new booking first, then cancel the old one only if seats remain available.

Those holding “Avios + £1” bookings will likely benefit the most, particularly if the Avios savings exceed 3,500 per person, justifying the cancellation fee.

Recent Changes to Avios Availability

British Airways introduced a new dynamic pricing system on 1 July 2025, aiming to standardize fares across global markets and third-party agents. This rollout appears to have affected Avios availability, especially in First Class and some short-haul routes, where seat visibility fluctuated widely.

Availability is reportedly improving. For instance, Malaga (AGP) had no visible reward flights for weeks but now shows strong availability. Nevertheless, some routes like New York JFK (JFK) continue to show no First Class seats beyond late August.

Conclusion

British Airways’ current reward flight sale is a rare opportunity for Executive Club members to maximize Avios value on short-haul and select long-haul economy redemptions.

With up to 45% off on eligible routes, this offer delivers meaningful savings, especially for those using companion vouchers or planning to travel outside the blackout period.

Travelers must act by 23 July 2025 to secure these limited-time Avios discounts.
