At least 8 people died in Belo Horizonte, Brazil on Thursday after the collapse of the building, which housed a nursing home for the elderly, reported local media. Rescuers are looking for 4 people trapped under rubble.
The disaster occurred on Thursday morning local time. According to the fire brigade's findings, there were 29 people in the building at the time, including 23 elder residents.
The four-story building besides housed an apartment, gym and solarium,” said the paper “Folha de Sao Paulo”.
Nine people got out of a collapsed building of their own strength or with the aid of local residents. Later, rescuers pulled 8 more survivors out of the rubble. Among them is simply a two-year-old kid whose condition is defined as stable.
According to “Folha de Sao Paulo” among the fatalities is the owner of the building, while his wife and two-year-old daughter were saved.
There is an investigation into the causes of the tragedy. Police pointed out signs of work to grow the building, but so far no evidence has been found linking this to the disaster.
