A disturbance in the Sejm. Kaczyński to Giertych: “I am not with you by name, you rascal!”

Warsaw, 2 April 2025. – The Wednesday session of the Sejm began with a stormy exchange between Jarosław Kaczyński, (PiS), and Roman Gierty, associate of the Civic Coalition (KO). The fierce confrontation on the Sejm speaker, full of emotion, individual attacks and common accusations, ended with the cry of the PiS MPs and the decision of Deputy Marshal Piotr Zgorzelski to announce the break. The incidental immediately echoed widely in the media and public opinion.

The beginning of the dispute: Kaczyński accuses Giertych

It all started erstwhile Jarosław Kaczyński requested the convening of the elder Convention to organize an extraordinary session of the Sejm. The subject was to discuss "Humanity in a Fighting Democracy". The president of PiS in his speech referred to the death of Barbara Skrzypek, a longtime organization associate, and the decision to decision Richard Cyba, the killer of PiS activist Mark Rosiak from prison. Gierty counterattacks: “Jarku, sit down!”

Roman Gierty did not stay in debt. Almost immediately, he appeared on the platform to answer the charges. – I was named a sadist by Mr Jarosław Kaczyński. Jarek, sit down, calm down. – said calmly, addressing straight the leader of the PiS, who at that time again approached the speaker.

Kaczyński's reaction was fast and full of emotion. – I'm not by your name, you rascal! – he shouted out whatever warmed the atmosphere. Gierty, without losing his reson, replied: – I'm not with you, Mr. Kaczyński, by name, but the genealogy researchers have shown me to be Mr. Kaczyński's uncle. Call me Uncle, Jarek.

Those words caused a real storm. The PiS MPs headed for the platform, chanting “Get down, murderer!” and surrounding both politicians. The talker of the meeting, Deputy talker of the Sejm, Piotr Zgorzelski was forced to announce a 10-minute break to calm the situation.

Conflict between Kaczyński and Giertych

The Wednesday feud in the Sejm is part of a long-standing conflict between Kaczyński and Giertych. Although they have co-founded the PiS-LPR government in the past, present they stay on other sides of an acute political barricade. The case of Barbara Skrzypek's death, who died on March 15th this year, respective days after the proceeding at the D.A.'s office, has been emotional for weeks. The Law and Justice Department points to law enforcement as the origin of tragedy, and the civilian Coalition defends the prosecution's actions and rejects prosecutions.
