Bożena Ratter: Wonderful rescue of Lviv

So they cannot give a full image of the terrible experiences of Lviv, but that I wrote them not in chronicle but looked at everything more from the national and political standpoint.

Finally, I completed them with details and papers taken from the Polish National Committee in Lviv. due to the fact that the miraculous rescue of Lviv, which in past will radiate as 1 of his most beautiful cards, was mainly the work of young people, children who were infallibly, so I dedicate this book to the Lviv children - Lviv, in November 1918.

On the next anniversary of 1 November 1918, the anniversary of the sacrificial defence against the Ukrainian attacker Lviv and the east Borders of the Republic of Poland - who returned to the Republic of Poland after 123 years of partitions - let us devote a minute of reflection to those who, of their own free will, without a warrant, suggest, frequently against the will of parents due to the fact that minors, without adequate equipment, food - arrived to defend the ancient lands of the Republic. Their graves are besides in the cemeteries in Warsaw, Przemyśl, Radom, Rzeszów – Poles who waited so long to regain Independence, faithful to God of Homeland and Honor came from another districts of the Republic (Warmia, Mazury, Wielkopolska, Silesia, Mazovia). Stanislaw Bortkiewicz - The 8th grader lived for 19 years He died in defence of Homeland on 13 January 1919. Volunteer Privateship 3 P.P. – buried in Warsaw

Athenian Mieczysław – born 1901, at the end of 1918 he appeared in the sixth grade of gymn. M. hr. Zamoyski enlisting as a volunteer in the Polish army. He died in Samborska land under the village of Dublana on 18 May during the last Ukrainian offensive – buried in Warsaw

Szymanski Stefan, rank. 2 p. 5 comp., from Radom, baker, age 22, murdered in captivity in Kamionka on 18 December 1918. Buried in Rawa Ruska.

Antoniewicz Zygmunt - a platoon 3 Comp., and at the same time a squad of Guards of the People's territory III, ended his life on 10 May 1919 due to wounds received under Lviv from the Ukrainian grenade. The ceremony was held from the Sisters of Mercy plant at Bernardine Square in Poznań.

Artwiński Stanisław- a student of gymn. in Przemyśl, died from a grenade rocket in defence of this city in the conflict of Nizankowice on 13 December 1918 and along with respective colleagues buried in a common tomb in Przemyśl.

Barycki Bronisław, 25 p. p. comp. kar. you have, clockmaker of Kielce, died on May 8.

Baudouin de Courtenay Kazimierz, boy of Ludomir and Józefa of Theodorovich, born in 1899, a student of the commercial school in Lublin, under the command of 36 p. p. comp. carab. you have., died in infirmary on Technica on 5 March. Buried in Lublin.

Berens Tadeusz, 7 p. 2 comp., locksmith from Warsaw, 1920s, died in Chyrow on 15 May.

Bergel Piotr, Corporal 1 p. shoot, 3 comp., native of Krakow, boy of Charles, locksmith, 21 years old torn apart by a bomb thrown by a pilot in Lubień Wielki on 12 April and buried there.

Białecki Edmund, a platoon 3rd Comp. 3 p. p. of Wielkopolska gunmen, died in the Kodowice fields and in the cemetery in Chodowice, buried on 20 April.

For respective years on behalf of the Polish Thermopil and Kresów Memorial Association, Fr Bronisław Mirecki and the Catholic Intelligence Club in Przemyśl, president Stanislaw Szarzyński has organized a gathering for the Lviv Defenders' Cemetery and graves in Kresach (including Trzciniec, Musciska, Judicial Wisznia, Gródek Jagielloński). Znieczą carries individual transport, standing for hours at the border crossing in a long queue with Ukrainian carriers.
