Bogacki: Helping Ukraine must mean reciprocity

Russia remains a threat, but Polish support for Ukraine cannot be unconditional. Zbigniew Bogucki, Head of the President's Chancellery, advocated a transactional policy in which humanitarian and military aid combined with the request for reciprocity in the interests of Polish citizens.

Security does not exclude an account of interest

Zbigniew Bogucki made it clear: Moscow remains a real threat, but relations with Ukraine should be based on the rule of reciprocity. According to Bankier.pl, the head of the President's Chancellery described this approach as a transaction policy.

That discrimination matters. The designation of a Russian threat does not mean that you gotta quit your own interests. Poland can support the safety of Ukraine and at the same time settle any decision according to whether it serves Polish citizens.

The State has obligations towards Poles

Bogucki indicated 2 dimensions of Polish engagement: humanitarian aid and military aid. If Poland acts as a donor of specified security, it has the right to anticipate reciprocity. The head of the President's Chancellery even talked about the work to make requirements in the interests of Polish citizens.

It is not a motion of resentment towards the Ukrainians, nor of diminishing the threat from Russia. This is simply a fundamental rule of liable state policy. The authorities in Warsaw have resources that arise from work and taxes of Poles. They must so be able to indicate what circumstantial interest Poland has in securing all form of support.
