Justice Minister Adam Bodnar powerfully commented on Karol Nawrocki's property statement, president of the Institute of National Memory and presidential candidate supported by the Law and Justice. In an interview with TVN24, he stressed that "any individual holding office, including the office of the president of the Institute of National Memory, may disclose at any time, nothing stands in the way."
The issue is controversial due to the fact that – as Onet established – Karol Nawrocki was to take over the municipal flat of 80-year-old Mr. Jerzy in Gdańsk in exchange for declared care of him. However, the older man yet went to a nursing home. This information contradicts Nawrocki's statement, which, during a debate organised by the “Super Express”, stated that he had only 1 apartment.
In light of doubt, Nawrocki declared on Monday that he would disclose his property statement, “if possible by law”. His staff spokeswoman, Emilia Wierzbicki, informed that the information about the 2 apartments was in a message made by him.
Adam Bodnar recalled that, in accordance with the applicable procedures, specified statements go to the First president of the ultimate Court, who verifies them in terms of legality. However, as the minister pointed out, from a civic and ethical position there are no obstacles to the candidate for the office of president himself revealing his assets.
– Nothing truly stands in the way of the individual who is moving for President, especially in this situation, saying: “Okay, fellow countrymen, please, this is my property statement.” There is no request to block any another procedures," Bodnar stated.
The Minister of Justice besides stressed that "from an ethical point of view, the full communicative raises powerful doubts".
Bodnar besides referred to the proposition of PiS politicians and Karol Nawrocki himself, that the publicity of the substance of the second flat would be the consequence of peculiar services interfering with the election campaign. “This is any colossal nonsense,” he said.
