Suspended but not cancelled
Michał Ostrowski, appointed by Zbigniew Ziobra as Deputy lawyer General, cannot be dismissed without the President's permission. He is 1 of the investigators who opposed the reforms introduced in the prosecution by Justice Minister Adam Bodnar.
He's been with the DA for almost 25 years. He started his career in Jelenia Góra, where he served as Deputy Head of the territory Attorney's Office until 2007, and then became territory lawyer in Wrocław. In November of the same year he was promoted to the Public Prosecutor's Office in Wrocław. In 2016, he took up the position of manager of the Department for economical Crime in the National Public Prosecutor's Office, dealing, among others, with matters concerning chaotic reprivatization and VAT crime.
Following changes in the management of the prosecutor's office in November 2023, he was appointed by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki as Deputy lawyer General. Earlier, the Sejm passed a alleged concrete bill that weakened the position of lawyer General for the National Prosecutor, which was intended to supply safety in case the Law and Justices lost power.
State bombing
The suspension is valid for six months and does not require Michał Ostrowski to stay at the disposal of the superior.
On 5 February, the president of the Constitutional Court Bogdan Święczkowski informed of the announcement of a suspicion of a coup by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Marshal of the Sejm Simon Holovnia and Marshal of the legislature of Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska. The investigation was initiated by Michał Ostrowski.
Prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk reported that lawyer General Adam Bodnar twice requested Ostrowski to supply documentation related to the investigation. On Monday at TVN24 Korneluk accused Ostrowski of disrespecting the interior rules of the prosecutor's office and expressed hope that after fresh events Ostrowski would change his approach.
Advocate General Anna Adamiak stated that correspondence with TK was a private substance of Michał Ostrowski. She stressed that the procedure could only be initiated after its registration and signature was given.
