The Florida legislature adopted on Thursday a bill by a majority of 28 to 9, which prohibits geoengineering and weather modification. Law SB-56, referred to by the media ‘Chemtrails Act’, prohibits the ‘injection, release or dispersal of any chemical, chemical, substance or device into the atmosphere within the limits of that condition for a clear intent of affecting the temperature, weather, climate or strength of sunlight’.
Law requires the Florida Environmental Protection Department (FDEP) to set up a strategy through which residents will be able to study "suspects of geoengineering activities". According to WFLA, FDEP besides received an order to analyse these reports.
Geoengineering, or climate engineering, is defined as a "target, large-scale change in the planetary environment to [declaredly] counter anthropogenic climate change".
Now the bill must be passed by the Florida home of Representatives, which, however, presented a importantly weakened version.
If the bill comes into force, Florida will be the second state in the U.S. after Tennessee to legally ban geoengineering. Tennessee passed a akin law as early as 2024.
Over 2 twelve another states — including Kentucky, fresh Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Arizona, Iowa, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Carolina, Utah, Wyoming, Alabama, Idaho, Indiana, Montana, fresh Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia, Missouri and Maine — have presented akin legislative initiatives for 2024 or 2025 and are presently waiting for further action.
Tennessee State Law entered into force on 1 July 2024, and in Florida it is due to enter into force on 1 July 2025.
Republican organization Senator Ilean Garcia, who presented the bill, stated that the law became essential after many voters expressed concerns about “unknown actors” changing the atmosphere in Florida without the consent of citizens.
"Many of us senators regularly receive comments and complaints about condensing streaks, besides known as chemical streaks," said Garcia at the proceeding last month. "There is simply quite a few skepticism."
She continued on Thursday: “I already have a problem with people spraying perfume in my surroundings – so how can you not have a problem spraying substances into the atmosphere that we don’t know who releases them or what they do?”
Florida's chief physician, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, publically advocated this bill on Wednesday.
"With sincere thanks to Senator Garcia for her efforts to reduce geoengineering and weather modification in Florida," Ladapo wrote on X (formerly Twitter). ‘These aircraft release aluminium, sulphates and another compounds whose effects on human wellness are unknown and harmful. We must proceed to fight for clean air, clean water and healthy food."
Governor Ron DeSantis expressed his support for the legislature bill, but criticized the home of Representatives for its crucial weakening.
"I support the legislation, but the Florida home of Representatives rejected Senator Garcia's bill — and would actually codified geoengineering practice and weather modifications," DeSantis said in a movie published on X.
In fact, the bill of the home of Representatives prohibits only modification of weather without a government license. The penalties have besides been relaxed.
While a draft legislature bill would introduce a far-reaching ban, and violations would be considered a third-degree crime, for which a fine of up to $100,000 would be threatened, a bill of the home of Representatives would only consider a violation without a licence or a false message for a second-degree violation, for which a fine of up to $10,000 would be threatened.
"Some people truly believe that they can place in the atmosphere substances blocking the sun and defend us from climate change," DeSantis said. "But in Florida we don't play this game".
Senator Garcia thanked the politician for X: “Thank you for your support, Governor. Do not tread on our sun!”
California lawyer Nicole Shanahan besides welcomed bill X. "The ban on geoengineering at state level is simply a good start, but the real change will only happen if we uncover the actors who fund these projects — and who have a strong interest in preventing a national ban," she wrote.
She besides thanked her erstwhile colleague, current U.S. Secretary of wellness and Welfare Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for "name geoengineering what it is: a crime".
Kennedy announced last year that the planet economical Forum and Bill Gates took control of geoengineering. Gates is backing projects of this kind worldwide.
"They make the problem worse and then sale us a solution," Kennedy said. "And the solution they want is greater social control".
"Geoengineering is simply a threat whose environmental movement must be aware – and so do we all," he said.
