On 13 January, Belarusian Democratic leader Swiatlan Cichanouska met with Polish president Karol Nawrocki. It was their first bilateral gathering in Warsaw after Nawrocki was elected president, they had previously met at the occasion of the UN General Assembly.
Swiatlana Cichanouska thanked Karol Nawrock and Poland for their support for Belarus and the Belarusians, for their consistent and essential position, support for freed political prisoners, the oppressed and the democratic movement. She pointed out that the Belarusian issue in Poland unites both government and opposition and all political parties. Tichanowska spoke about the priorities of democratic forces, both abroad and in the country.
Cichanouska and Nawrocki discussed the process of releasing political prisoners, the situation of Andrzej Poczobutt, relations with the US administration, as well as safety in the region. Cichanouska expressed hope that the exemptions would continue, and Poland, as so far, will support the freed, including in matters of legalization of residence and the handling of documents. She thanked Poland for inactive accepting Belarusians who are persecuted in their homeland.
Cichanouska proposed respective joint initiatives to support the Belarusian community in Poland in the field of historical heritage, culture and literature, invited to participate in Belarusian festivals and amateur sports competitions organized by the Belarusians, as well as to affect Belarus in regional events, specified as “Tryangle of Lublin”.
Cichanouska gave the president a draft concept of the Belarusian Institute of National Memory, developed by democratic forces, which will aid people learn the fact about the repressions of russian times and fresh years through access to archives and testimonies, and will besides aid you clear your bureaucratic strategy of wicked practices from the past.
