The Ministry of the Interior of Belarus announced the detention of 2 foreigners and a Belarusian female who organised the legalization of foreigners' residence in Belarus. The Communication from the safety services came the day after Latvia presented evidence of the engagement of the Belarusian services in exerting migratory force on EU countries.
“Bad people helped migrants into illegal entry and stay in Belarus. They created and transmitted false papers to state institutions from both fictional and genuine employers. In doing so, they provided illegal immigrants with visas and temporary residence permits in Belarus," the Ministry of the Interior reported.
For the organization of the “grey” legalization procedure in Belarus “presentatives of the Central Asia region” the safety services detained 2 foreigners and Belarusians. It is claimed that they charged a fee of $200-250 for their services, followed by 250 Belarusian rubles (about PLN 315) per individual per month.
More than 100 people have utilized these “legalizers”. Many of them worked as taxi drivers, helpers in the markets and in catering facilities.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated. The Ministry of the Interior warned that illegal immigrants would be deported from the country, while at the same time ensuring: “Belarus is open to guest-observers”.
The safety services reported the disclosure of the crime the day after Latvia announced that it had evidence of the engagement of Belarusian law enforcement authorities and military structures in illegal migration to EU countries.
One of the migrants detained in Latvia found papers and means of communication belonging to the Belarusian reconnaissance battalion soldier of the 19th Guards of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade, stationed in the Vitebsk Oblast.
In addition, photographs of Belarusian border guards with them, including military equipment, were found on the phones of detained migrants.
