The Belarusian MFA issued a message in which it supported diplomatic negotiations between Ukraine and Russia as the only solution to the conflict. MFA wrote about it on platform X.
“Russia and Ukraine are not only our neighbours, for us they are fellow countries. Belarus has always consistently advocated open and direct dialogue. We are convinced that only diplomatic negotiations can become an effective tool for uncovering solutions and strengthening stableness in our region," wrote the MFA.
It was noted that Belarus is ready to support the peace-solution process “for the benefit of the 3 fraternal countries and nations”.
Despite the readiness mentioned by the Ministry of abroad Affairs, Belarus was not selected as a gathering placeand was not mentioned at all in the context of peace talks.
The message of the MFA appeared on the evening of May 15, erstwhile it became clear that the talks of the Russian and Ukrainian delegation in Istanbul were postponed to a different date, which was May 16. Vladimir Putin first spoke publically about talks in Turkey after he rejected the 30-day ceasefire jointly proposed by Ukraine, Poland, large Britain and France.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio does not expectno applicable settlements after discussions in Turkey.
“I hope I'm wrong. I hope I'm 100% wrong. I hope that tomorrow's news will say they have agreed on a ceasefire," Rubio said. ‘We are no longer going to prosecute this worldwide and participate in meetings that will not be productive”,added US Secretary of State
