After the re-registration of nearly 60 Roman Catholic and 1 Greek Catholic parishes started in Belarus in 2024.
Although the communities have lost their legal personality, many of them inactive function and gather at prayer, says the Catholic portal.life.
Some of the decommissioned parishes only existed formally, but many were surviving communities where services were regularly held. However, the deficiency of adequate believers prevented them from re-registration.
Despite losing legal status, spiritual life in many places continues. Communities were incorporated into neighboring parishes and their temples service as a subsidiary. Priests from their parent parish arrive there to celebrate Mass.
An example are the towns of Lyskowo and Wolka in the diocese of Pinsk, where the faithful proceed to meet in chapels, despite the formal liquidation of the parish in 2024.
