Belarusian leader Alaksandr Lukashenka signed a decree on Thursday to pardon 18 people, including 15 political prisoners," informed the state news agency Belta, citing the Lukashenko press office. According to Minsk, these people “repentantly and declared compliance”.
According to the agency, 15 of these people were convicted of alleged extremist crimes, which is the word utilized by the Belarusian authorities for political sentences.
The Belarusian Centre for the Defence of Human Rights “Wiasna” wrote on Thursday on Telegram that among the pardoned majority - 11 people - were women. Belta noted that six of them had children, including disabilities, requiring medical rehabilitation.
