FC Barcelona is still in the game for three titles, having already won the Spanish Super Cup, and with crucial matches ahead in La Liga, the Champions League, and the King’s Cup. While the players are focused on the sports rivalry, the club’s management is already planning transfers. Last summer, only one significant reinforcement was made, with Dani Olmo joining the team. In the next transfer window, the Catalans want to make bigger moves, if finances permit. And it appears that a new candidate has emerged, whom Barcelona had previously wanted to sign, but to no avail. Will things be different this time?
The Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva from Manchester City is the subject of interest. Although his contract is valid until the end of June 2026, it is likely that he will leave the team this summer. And many signs point to him potentially joining Barcelona. The player himself wants to sign a contract with the Catalans, as reported by the Catalan newspaper „Sport”. „He wants to sign with Barcelona,” the journalists revealed.
The Catalans highly value Silva’s skills and talent, but in the past, he was out of reach due to the club’s financial problems. The player also has significant salary demands, but according to the editorial board, things may take a turn. Manchester is reportedly willing to facilitate Silva’s departure, and the club is ready to lower its expectations.
„He would have a negotiable release clause of around €50 million and would be willing to adjust his salary if Barcelona decides to hire him. (…) Manchester wants to sell him, and the player will fight to leave the club for as low a price as possible,” the article reads.
It seems that everything is in Barcelona’s hands. The media reports that Silva is not a priority this summer, but who knows if the club’s management won’t change their mind. And if not Barcelona, then who? „Sport” reports that Saudi Arabia could be a „second option” for the Portuguese midfielder. After all, they have already brought in many well-known names, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. And Silva’s name would undoubtedly raise the prestige of the league. However, the player has other goals in mind. „His obsession is to play in Spain,” the journalists added.
Bernardo Silva joined Manchester City in 2017, his third club in his career. He has played 396 matches, scoring 69 goals and providing 71 assists. Throughout the years, he has been a team leader, guiding his team to great successes, including six English championships and the Champions League trophy.
Statistics:
* 396 matches played for Manchester City
* 69 goals scored
* 71 assists provided
* 6 English championships won
* 1 Champions League trophy won
Why Barcelona needs Silva:
* Reinforcement of the midfield position
* High-quality player with extensive experience in top-tier leagues
* Ability to provide goals and assists
* Leadership skills, having guided Manchester City to numerous titles
