The supply of 2 Patriot air defence systems for Ukraine can begin – the Ministry of Defence in Berlin passed. It's a condition of an interesting transaction, thanks to which Ukraine will get rockets from Germany. But the United States plays a key function anyway.

The prerequisite for the transmission of Patriot systems was the transportation of fresh systems as rapidly as possible by the American manufacturer. The aim was for Germany to proceed to fulfil its obligations to NATO, reported defence minister Boris Pistorius.

"There is specified an agreement from the US," Pistorius said. Therefore, Germany will be able to first support Ukraine with launch tubes and then with additional strategy components.

Delivery in the coming days

The Ministry of Defence in Berlin reported that the Bundeswehra is already scheduled to supply Ukraine with additional Patriot launchers in the coming days. In the second stage, in the next 2 to 3 months, he will hand over further components of the strategy to strengthen Ukraine's air defence with additional Patriot batteries.

It was agreed with the U.S. Department of defence that Germany would alternatively be the first country to receive at an accelerated rate the recently produced systems of the latest generation.

The first plan was to acquisition 2 Patriot systems from the US for about a billion euros each and their direct shipment to Ukraine. However, since they are not available for immediate delivery, the German armed forces will first hand over 2 of their remaining 9 Patriots and then receive replacements from the US.
