During the Wednesday debate in the Bundestag on Polish-German relations, the importance of Poland as a key partner of Germany was repeatedly stressed. Representatives of various political groups advocated deeper economical and military cooperation and pointed to the request for measures to improve relations.
The proposed initiatives included the improvement of cross-border railway infrastructure, the establishment of a Polish-German parliamentary assembly and the creation of a fund supporting the surviving victims of German crimes in Poland.
The typical of the German government for cooperation with Poland, Knut Abraham from the CDU, recalled that 35 years have passed since the signing of the treaty on a good neighbourhood. He pointed out that Poland is presently ranked 5th among the most crucial trading partners of Germany, leading, among others, the UK.

He assessed that relations between the 2 countries are presently at a hard time and require concrete action, not just declarations made at authoritative ceremonies.
